The following article contains spoilers for Blue Beetle: Graduation Day #3, on sale now from DC.
Starfire shows off a dazzling outfit in Blue Beetle: Graduation Day #3 that's notably more modest than the Tamarian warrior princess' usual wear.
"Graduation Day: Chapter Three," written by Josh Trujillo and illustrated by Adrián Gutiérrez, sees Starfire and Jamie Reyes taking to the skies above Palmera City. The pair engage in a heart-to-heart about the nature of Reyes' powers and his latest enemy, the intergalactic conquerors known as the Reach. Later in the story, Starfire and Jamie go up against Nitida, a new villain.
Throughout the issue, Starfire wears her latest costume, which was fully revealed in Blue Beetle: Graduation Day #2. A far cry from her more revealing outfits, Starfire's new look maintains her traditional purple and green color scheme but features armored sleeves, bracelets, a tunic and pants that completely cover her legs. Aside from the occasional Tamaran battlesuit that Starfire has briefly donned in the past, the costume is the most covered-up that Princess Koriand'r has ever been.
Starfire's Costume History
Starfire originally debuted in 1980's DC Comics Presents #26 before becoming a regular member of the Teen Titans series of the '80s. Aside from her intergalactic backstory, solar powers and on-and-off romance with Nightwing, Starfire has often been known for her revealing outfits, including a debut costume that was barely more than a swimsuit. Starfire's redesign in DC's New 52 reboot of 2011 made the swimsuit even skimpier, and it wasn't until her self-titled series in 2015 that Starfire donned a somewhat more modest suit composed of a sleeved top and hot pants. Her more recent appearances in Teen Titans Academy and Nightwing have seen her wearing a purple leotard.
According to Starfire co-creator George Pérez, Koriand'r's original look was partially inspired by Red Sonja, an equally scantily clad character who debuted in a chain-mail bikini and has received more realistic wardrobe revisions in recent years.
Blue Beetle: Graduation Day #3 is written by Trujillo, illustrated by Gutiérrez, colored by Wil Quintana, lettered by Lucas Gattoni and featured a main cover by Gutiérrez and Quintana. Variant covers are provided by Joe Quinones and Chokoo!, Danny Miki & Ivan Plascencia. The issue is on sale now from DC.
