ILMxLAB has announced today that Star Wars: Tales From the Galaxy's Edge - Enhanced Edition will be a launch title for Sony's upcoming PSVR 2 headset and that the game will be releasing on February 22nd, 2023.
The announcement also comes with the news that eager players can pre-order the space-faring adventure game today from the PlayStation Store. Bear in mind, PSVR 2 headset pre-orders have not yet begun, though Sony is expected to open up pre-orders for its next-gen VR goggles very soon. If you know in your heart of hearts that you'll be getting a PSVR 2 headset on its release date, and you really want to spend your first day with the PSVR 2 playing space pirate, you can pre-order your digital copy of the game via the PlayStation Store here.
Today's announcement, sadly, does not bring any new information about the game or even a new trailer; the PR pack sent over by ILMxLAB only contains the original State of Play announcement trailer. While there may not be any new footage at this time, we could potentially see more close to release as previews and the like start to drip out onto the internet before the headset lands on the faces of players.
For those unfamiliar with Star Wars: Tales From The Galaxy's Edge - Enhanced Edition, here's a brief run-down of what the game is.
Star Wars: Tales From The Galaxy's Edge was originally released as an exclusive for the Quest VR headset where it was met with high praise from critics and players alike. The game sees players take on the role of a nobody - a random droid technician - who gets swept up in a grand adventure after crash-landing on the planet of Batuu. The game mostly takes place between the events of The Last Jedi and The Rise of Skywalker, though don't expect to be bumping into Rey, Finn, and Po. Though you can expect a few familiar faces, such as C3PO and R2D2. It wouldn't be an authentic Star Wars experience if the most recognizable droids in the galaxy didn't make an appearance, would it?
The PSVR 2 version, dubbed the Enhanced Edition, is more than a simple port of the original Quest release. According to the developer, Star Wars: Tales From The Galaxy's Edge - Enhanced Edition has been reworked to take advantage of the tech inside - and outside - of the PSVR 2 headset. That means a massively improved visual experience with enhanced 3D audio. Players can also expect some of that sweet haptic action via the headset and controllers, providing the most immersive experience possible without being sent off to a galaxy far, far away.
