Nintendo has released a new trailer for its multiplayer action game, Splatoon 3, detailing the catalogue of new content coming in the game's first major update on December 1. Splatoon 3's Chill Season 2022 event introduces new game modes, weapons, maps, emotes, and more.
Chill Season adds "X Battles" mode, which requires players to reach at least elite rank on Anarchy Battles to make their way up the leaderboard. Although details on X Battles have not been provided yet, the new mode gives players a new purpose after completing the game's story mode. Given Splatoon 3 has already multiple competitive modes such as Turf War, Rainmaker, Spat Zones, and Tower Control, it is a question of how X Battles will set itself apart from these modes. A new map, Brinewater Springs, will also be added in the new update.
In addition to ten returning weapons from previous games in the series and three new weapons, the Chill Season introduces the Big Run event, a twist on one of Splatoon 3's survival modes, Salmon Run. According to the trailer, the Big Run will take place when Salmonids invade the Wahoo World. Details on how players will participate in the Big Run and how the event will function will be made public later this year.
Furthermore, The Chill Season 2022 brings a new collection of gear, victory emotes, stickers, and custom titles for players to reflect their style. The good news for eager Splatoon fans is that Flounder Heights, a map from the first game, will be added to Splatoon 3 when the Chill Season kicks off in December.
Splatoon 3 is currently available exclusively on the Nintendo Switch, the game had the best-ever launch weekend in Japan on the Switch.
