Game Freak and Nintendo have released a 5-minute overview trailer for Pokémon Scarlet & Violet ahead of the game's imminent November 18 launch which details exploration, combat, terastallization and Pokémon that players will find across the Paldea Region.
The first part of the trailer introduces the characters that the player will encounter along the way. Players will choose their first Pokémon partner after enrolling in the Academy to begin their journey. They will have the options of Sprigatito, Feucoco, or Quaxly, and then either the legendary Pokémon Koraidon or Miraidon depending on which version the player has. One of these legendary Pokémon will aid the player in their quest to find hidden treasure.
As seen in the trailer, these two legendary Pokémon can be used as a mount to discover more places. Furthermore, Pokémon Scarlet & Violet supports local wireless and online play, allowing players to explore the Paldea region with up to three friends. The development team assured that where players go will be entirely up to them, a new direction for Pokémon games.
As always, there will be eight Pokémon gyms, each offering a unique challenge. Players will encounter different types of Pokémon across Paldea, such as Lechonk, Fidough, Cetitan, and Paldean Wooper. The trailer delves into terastallization, one of the new combat mechanics. Terastallization makes Pokémon moves stronger and causes them to sparkle like a gem. Pokémon that can terrastallize can be caught in terra raid battles, where up to three players will fight against wild terra Pokémon.
The trailer also introduces the camera app feature, allowing players to catch moments from their adventure. The photos that players take can be used to customize their profile and create unique ID cards. Last but not least, players can go on a picnic with their Pokémon to deepen their bond with them. In the Paldea Region, players will discover new ways to play that don't entail sticking to a single direction.
Pokémon Scarlet and Violet will be released on November 18 for the Nintendo Switch.
