Pokemon Scarlet & Violet: How To Get Dragonite, Dratini, And Dragonair

Nov 21, 2022 · 15

Dragonite has always been a fan favorite ever since Generation 1 of Pokemon. It turns out there are a few ways to obtain one in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet. You can hunt down Dratinis and Dragonairs at their spawn regions, or you can go for a for-sure shot at an electric Tera-Type level 54 Dragonair at a specific destination. You can even go straight for the punch if you have progress further into the game and are ready to take on a level 75 Steel Tera-Type Dragonite! We'll go through all of these options in this guide, so buckle up.

Pre-requisites for Catching Dragonair or Dratini Early

You will need to have already learned how to swim with your Miriadan or Koraidon if you want to obtain these Pokemon in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet. Once you've unlocked the ability, you will be able to traverse waters easily and quickly with your mount, and gain access to the areas where Dratini and Dragonair are located.

To unlock the swim ability, you will need to defeat the Open Sky Titan, Bombirdier. Follow our guide to beat the titan quickly and efficiently. You can also watch this quick video of the Open Sky Titan battle and how to get there quickly:

Steel Tera-Type Level 75 Dragonite

If you've already made it close to or past level 75 with some of your Pokemon, you will be able to go straight for the Steel Tera-Type Dragonite available on the east coast of the North Province (Area Two). If you aren't close to this level yet, follow onto the next section of this guide for other options.

You can catch this Dragonite where you see the green circle in the following map image.

Steel Tera Dragonite Abilities

The Steel Tera Type Dragonite will have the following abilities:

  • Iron Head
  • Dragon Dance
  • Aerial Ace
  • Earthquake

Electric Tera-Type Level 54 Dragonair

There is a level 54 Electric Tera-Type Dragonair available to be captured just off the west coast of the West Paldean Sea. If you bring Pokemon with earth-type moves, you can take it down easily even if you are a much lower level. The trick will be to actually get it to stay in the darn Ultra Ball, if you have some.

Here is the location on the map of the west coast:

Catch Dratinis and Dragonairs in the Wild

Dratini and Dragonair can also show up at Casseroya Lake, in the North-East region of the continent. The Dragonairs rarely show up, so you will be much more likely to see Dratinis in this area, This is the last option for capturing one of the evolutions to eventually evolve into Dragonite.
