Modern Warfare 2 features many Assault Rifles, some of which are much better than others. The M4 is the jack-of-all-trades and performs moderately well in all scenarios, whereas guns like the Kastov 545 excel at long-range combat. However, the STB 556 is one such Assault Rifle that is more tailored for close-range combat, and by progressing through its Weapon Platform, you can unlock the HCR 56 and the MX9.
The STB 556 is a curious Assault Rifle that possesses high recoil control, great accuracy, and a fast-fire rate, but its range falls on the lower side of most guns of the same weapon type. The weapon itself seems to perform more like an SMG, which packs a major punch at close-to-mid-range but is significantly less viable for shooting from afar. Luckily, this gun is the base of its Weapon Platform and can be unlocked once players reach Level 41.
The Best Attachments For The STB 556
|HARBINGER D20 (Barrel)||
|FTAC C11 RISER (Comb)||
|VLK LZR 7MW (Laser)||
|STIP-40 GRIP (Rear Grip)||
|42 ROUND MAG (Magazine)||
The attachments we have chosen will increase the STB 556's effective range, accuracy, recoil control, and handling whilst reducing the mobility by a small amount. It gives you a weapon that is great for close-to-mid-range engagements and holds up moderately well from afar. The key here is speed and reliability. Reducing the time to get your weapon up makes the STB 556 fast and reliable to support aggressive, run-and-gun style gameplay.
We have chosen attachments like the HARBINGER D20 muzzle to add both range and recoil smoothness and provide better accuracy at further ranges. It also offers sound suppression to keep you hidden from enemy radars. The FTAC C11 RISER comb attachments and the VLK LZR 7MW laser will reduce your aim down sight and sprint to fire speeds. It allows you to draw your gun and fire much quicker, so you can afford to be agile and quick on your feet. Lastly, the STIP-40 GRIP will provide more recoil control, making it much more manageable to engage opponents that are further away from you.
We have also chosen the 42 ROUND MAG for extra ammo capacity, making it much easier to get those kill chains without having to reload. But if you want to run an optic, then swap this out for something like the SLIMLINE PRO. Doing so will give back some of that reload quickness and sprint-to-fire speed but will reduce your mag size to 30.
As the STB 556 will be your go-to weapon for most situations, you don't require a reliable swap-to-weapon, especially when you are running Scavenger as an earned perk. Therefore, you have space to carry a launcher. You can utilize the RPG-7 or the STRELA-P against enemy players, especially those sitting in windows and other areas of interest. However, the PILA will be your best option as it can lock onto killstreaks and also has a free-fire option for infantry.
|Base Perks||Bonus Perk (Earned in Match)||Ultimate Perk (Earned in Match)|
|Scavenger & Tracker||Fast Hands||Ghost or Quick Fix|
The attachments we have selected make this loadout great for stealth-oriented gameplay, so getting the right perks to reflect this is rather important. Tracker is a great perk to use for this class, not only to make it easier to track down enemy players but also to hide key Intel from the enemy team - such as kill markers. Scavenger should be your second go-to perk, as you will have to rely on your primary for pretty much all gun fights. Therefore, it's best that you are able to restock your ammunition to rack up those killstreaks and come out on top.
We have chosen Fast Hands as the Bonus Perk option, mainly for increased reload speed. This is because the reload for the STB 556 is on the slower side, even without the 42 ROUND MAG equipped.
Lastly, we have chosen Ghost as your Ultimate Perk because it will keep you off the mini-map even while UAVs are active. You can swap this out for Quick Fix if you are confident that you can take out enemy UAVs quickly, but running a Stim as your Tactical Equipment eliminates the need for such a perk.
If you want to increase your mobility by a considerable amount, you can swap out Tracker for Double Time. This will allow you to maintain your tactical sprint for a longer duration, and the fast aim-down-sight and sprint-to-fire speed should cover you when you are caught by surprise while sprinting.
