A CBR exclusive first look at Hallows' Eve #1 sees the new Spider-Man villain break into a vault full of a number of unexpected easter eggs.
Hallows' Eve is a new five-issue miniseries written by Erica Schultz and featuring art by Michael Dowling that stars Janine Godbe/Hallows' Eve, a new enemy to Spider-Man who has played a major role in Marvel's Dark Web event. A preview for the series' first issue sees Janine wanted for murder and using her powers -- powers which vary depending on which Halloween mask she's wearing -- to first disguise herself as Marilyn Monroe and then break into a vault. Within the vault are 1962's Amazing Fantasy #15 cover (by Jack Kirby and Steve Ditko), a Hulk action figure and an early, Model 1-style Iron Man mask.
The synopsis for Hallows' Eve #1 reads, "Spinning out of AMAZING SPIDER-MAN, Hallows’ Eve gets her own series! Janine Godby’s world has been blown up several times in her life, but this time. she has a bag of super-powered masks and a chip on her shoulder. She’s on the run from the police, but there’s someone else after her too. Don’t miss this breakout character break even bigger!"
Hallows' Eve Is Making Her Mark on the Marvel Universe
Hallows' Eve officially debuted in 2022's Amazing Spider-Man #14 (by Zeb Wells, Kyle Hotz, JP Mayer, Michael Dowling, Rachel Dodson, Tim Townsend, Richard Isanove, Terry Dodson, Matt Hollingsworth, Dan Brown, Marcio Menyz, Ryan Stegman and VC's Joe Caramagna) as a dangerous new member of Peter Parker's rogues gallery; however, Janine has been around the Marvel universe long before that. Originally named Elizabeth Tyne before changing her name after she killed her abusive father, Janine Godbe was first introduced in 1995's Spider-Man: The Lost Years #1 (by J.M. DeMatteis, John Romita Jr., Klaus Janson, Christie Scheele, Richard Starkings and Comicraft). She's been the longtime love interest of Ben Reilly, Peter Parker's clone who is currently operating as Chasm.
After witnessing Ben transform into Chasm in 2018's Amazing Spider-Man #93 (by Wells, Patrick Gleason, Bryan Valenza and Caramagna), Janine initially wanted to run away from her partner in fear something bad would happen. She later changed her mind and joined Ben and Madelyne Pryor/the Goblin Queen in Limbo to plan their Dark Web attack. Using one of S'ym's dismembered fingers, Madelyne transformed Janine into Hallows' Eve and gave her the ability to transform herself into different monsters depending on which magical Halloween mask she's wearing. Janine then helped Venom/Eddie Brock steal a Cerebro device from the X-Men's Treehouse in New York City.
Hallows' Eve #1 features cover art by Dowling and variant cover art by Stanley "Artgerm" Lau, Rose Beach, Alex Ross, Chris Allen and Terry Dodson. The issue releases March 1, 2023.
