There have been many creative cosplays and fan art of Chainsaw Man's Pochita since the anime aired, but this one might just take the cake...or, in this case, fuzzy orange kiwi.
Rendered into an adorable 3D CG version by Tom (Txx_CG), Pochita transforms into a breathing and moving creature reminiscent of Pixar animation. To make it more life-like, Tom added short, textured fur. In the short video, which has amassed over a million views, Pochita moves his head around, curious about his surroundings while his tail wags around. To make it extra cute, Pochita shifts his paws around, exactly like a dog would. Fans fawned over Pochita, with many comparing it to a kiwi as they're both approximately the same shape.
The fan's Pochita edit received over 120,000 likes and over 20,000 retweets since its posting on Nov. 18. As thanks, Tom showed behind-the-scenes footage of the production process, such as Pochita without his fur. This different angle showcased his back and even included an angry Pochita, which the artist ultimately rejected in favor of the more huggable version.
Chainsaw Man's Talented Fandom
While it will likely be some time before Chainsaw Man receives a live-action adaptation, fans have already come up with creative edits and cosplays. One cosplayer uploaded an Aki cosplay on Douyin that transformed a simple cosplay into a jaw-dropping CG world that transported the cosplayer straight into the Chainsaw Man world. Another fan made the chainsaws on their arms, and head move through ingenious design and engineering.
Tatsuki Fujimoto began working on Chainsaw Man shortly after Fire Punch. As a film buff, Fujimoto's inspiration came from the numerous works that he watched. One example was the pivotal battle in Part 1 of the manga found inspiration from the anime film trilogy Kizumonogatari. Chainsaw Man received an anime adaptation produced by MAPPA. The mangaka is heavily involved in the anime, having seen the scripts and storyboards. To faithfully adapt the manga, MAPPA promised not to censor the violence, gore and sexual elements.
Denji the Devil Hunter
The first part of the manga found its home in Weekly Shōnen Jump from 2018 to 2020 before taking a hiatus. Part 1 introduces the protagonist Denji, a young man living in poverty whose life changes after his best friend, the chainsaw devil dog Pochita, brings him back to life. Pochita's sacrifice gives him the ability to turn into a Devil called Chainsaw Man with the pull of a cord in his chest. This power makes him an unpredictable yet invaluable part of the Public Safety Devil Hunters, a group of Devil Hunters dedicated to fighting Devils. Part 2 began in Shōnen Jump, starting in July 2022, with new characters and a new threat.
Airing every Tuesday, Chainsaw Man is available to watch on Crunchyroll and Hulu. The manga is available to read on Viz Media and Manga Plus and is updated every Tuesday.
