Orochi's story is featured primarily In what is known as the "Orochi Saga," that takes place between KOF 95-97.
Orochi is a devine being known as "Gaia's Will". Orochi is thought to be the equalizing force between humanity and nature. For ages Orochi was considered to be nature's guardian and was granted many of its powers. Orochi eventually gained many followers and would eventually form its own clan. The strongest warriors of its clans would become known as the Hakkesshu.
As mankind grew the natural order began to crumble. 1800 years ago Orochi could no longer tolerate the destruction mankind made in the name of progress and sought to wipe mankind from the face of the earth. Orochi went to war with humanity until it was defeated by the Kusanagi, Yata & Yasakani clans wielding the three sacred treasures and sealed Orochi in another dimension.
660 years before the King of Fighters 95' tournament the Orochi seal began to weaken. The Hakkesshu killed a member of the Yasakani clan and framed the Kusanagi's. Seeking revenge on their now sworn enemies, the Yata clan made a deal with Orochi for the power to destroy their enemies. The Yata clan then became the Yagami's and are susceptible to the Riot of Blood.
Orochi would return to the earthly plan in 1997 after the finals of the King of Fighters when the New Faces Team revealed themselves as the final members of the Hakkesshu. Shermie & Yashiro sacrificed their lives to empower Chris as the physical host for Orochi. Orochi came face to face with Kyo Kusanagi, Iori Yagami & Chizuru Kagura, the Three sacred Treasures. Orochi activated the Riot of Blood within Iori hoping that he would kill his companions but Iori managed to retain enough control to hold on to Orochi to allow his associates to seal the deity away again.
Orochi mostly shows up in cameos and sometimes, Dream Match titles. In Neo Geo Battle Coliseum, a genetic clone of Orochi called Mizuchi appears as a boss character.
